For 12 years, the DuPont Company has been working with the Department of Education to provide training for science teachers across the state – dedicating its financial and personnel resources to making sure today’s students are ready for the jobs of tomorrow. The partnership with DuPont is just one way that the DOE is supporting the implementation of the Smithsonian Science Curriculum.
The partnership provides training for science teachers across the state who are using Smithsonian Science Kits. Started in 1995 with a significant grant from the National Science Foundation, the kits have become an integral part of the science curriculum in Delaware.
The partnership provides two days of training to help new and veteran teachers master the science kit curriculum, as well as financial support to purchase the kits for every science classroom in the state.
The program also offers teachers the opportunity to interact with company scientists and learn how the science taught in schools is being applied in the corporate world every day. Teachers gain firsthand knowledge about science career options-- then take that knowledge back to their classrooms to help students think about how science can play a role in their career choices.
