Vision 2015 Delaware

Welcome Back to School!

Vision 2015 wishes all students, parents, administrators, and school personnel a happy, healthy, and successful school year!

This fall also marks the official participation of six additional schools in the Vision Network, which now includes 25 schools throughout the state—serving approximately 20,000 students. The six schools are:

  • Dover High School, Capital School District
  • Georgetown Middle School, Indian River School District
  • Millsboro Middle School, Indian River School District
  • Selbyville Middle School, Indian River School District
  • Delcastle Technical High School, New Castle County Vo-Tech School District
  • Paul M. Hodgson Vocational Technical High School, New Castle County Vo-Tech School District

"Our school couldn't be more excited or proud to join the Vision Network," said Annemarie Linden, principal of Paul M. Hodgson Vocational Technical High School. "We've heard time and time again from our colleagues within our district that because of the Network, they have been able to improve school culture more than ever and make great strides toward deeply impacting student achievement. What educator wouldn't want that?"

Did You Know?

The USDOE has made it clear that only a few states that are willing to challenge the status quo will make the final cut for a share of the federal $4.35 billion Race to the Top fund. According to a recent analysis by The New Teacher Project, Delaware is a strong competitor, yet not assured of funding. The First State is among 18 other states seen as competitive; just two states – Florida and Louisiana – are identified as highly competitive.

Register Today!

Join us on Tuesday, October 27, from 8:00am to 2:00pm at the University of Delaware for Vision 2015 and Delaware’s Race to the Top, a leadership forum focused on our progress and plans to build a world-class public education system in Delaware. We are thrilled that U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will provide the keynote address!

In addition to Secretary Duncan, prominent Delaware leaders, including Governor Jack Markell and Delaware Education Secretary Dr. Lillian Lowery, will speak throughout the morning. Panels with national and local experts also will dig into how Delaware can recruit and retain more highly effective teachers and how we can meet the critical needs of chronically low-performing schools.

The conference is for policy makers, educators, business leaders, and interested citizens. Registration is required, and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Vision 2015 and

Delaware's Race to the Top

We are delighted to announce that U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will keynote the University of Delaware’s upcoming leadership forum on public education, Vision 2015 and Delaware’s Race to the Top. Visit www.udel.edu/partnerships for conference details.

Secretary Duncan is leading the Obama administration’s efforts to transform U.S. public education through increased innovation, accountability, and proven best practices, with the goal of providing an excellent education to all students. His presence in Delaware on October 27 comes at a critical time—just as the state is preparing to compete for significant federal support through USDOE’s $4.35 billion Race to the Top grant program.

The Race to the Top fund is the largest competitive grant program for education in President Obama’s economic stimulus package and provides an opportunity for a handful of states to earn funding to implement innovative, ambitious education improvements. Race to the Top is an unprecedented opportunity for Delaware. With full recovery from our economic crisis estimated to take years, Delaware will likely continue to face a difficult budget environment. Delaware's leaders are committed to doing what it takes to pursue this historic opportunity and implement sustainable solutions that will benefit each and every Delaware student. The goals of Race to the Top align tightly with those of Delaware Secretary of Education Lillian Lowery, which she describes in the most recent issue of Delaware Business.

VISION-aries

"Now is the time to take bold leaps in the preparation, delivery, and support of systemic excellence in education. The availability of significant federal "stimulus" funding from the United States Department of Education, such as the Race to the Top (RTTT) competitive grant, provides a unique window that will enable us to make the comprehensive changes required to build a world-class education system for all children. That is, if we do it right."
